Reflecting on 10 years of marriage equality: Frankie Frankeny on the stories behind the movement
Briefly

This week marks the tenth anniversary of the Supreme Court's ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, which federally recognized marriage equality. In celebration, photographer Frankie Frankeny and The Advocate's John Casey released the book LOVE, featuring over 100 personal stories from the marriage equality movement. The book traces the journey from the near invisibility of gay couples to the activism of preceding decades and culminates in the landmark ruling. Frankeny shares insights on the motivations for this project, emphasizing the importance of showcasing the heroic efforts of LGBTQ+ individuals throughout history.

I refused to believe the messaging that told us those feelings were wrong. It's a terrible thing to feel pure joy and love and be told it's the opposite.
