The Ultimate Gay Road Trip
Briefly

The article reflects on a road trip that turned into an authentic connection with various communities rather than a political campaign. Starting in Oklahoma City and leading to Paducah, Kentucky, the journey emphasized the importance of queer culture through visits to art spots like the National Quilt Museum and interactions with the local LGBTQ+ community. The trip highlighted how smaller towns can serve as welcoming places for everyone, especially in states known for conservative values, thereby fostering solidarity and hope for a complex nation.
Paducah is an apt reminder of the power of the arts, and how these expressive communities are often sanctuaries for queer residents and travelers alike, even in infamously red states.
Being recently back in O.K.C, incidentally right before the election, I look back on our Big Gay Road Trip with so much fondness and Pride, and most importantly, much hope for our great big complicated country.
