A major food stamp fraud case has come to light involving USDA employee Arlasa Davis and five other individuals, with an estimated loss of $66 million. Prosecutors assert that Davis exploited her role to facilitate fraudulent activities under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) since 2019. They accuse her and Michael Kehoe of enabling unauthorized processing of SNAP benefit transfers in various stores throughout New York City, resulting in over $36 million in false redemptions. U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rakoff condemned the actions as a severe breach of public trust, impacting vulnerable community members relying on this essential program.
This fraud was made possible when USDA employee Arlasa Davis betrayed the public trust by selling confidential government information to the very criminals she was supposed to catch.
They would allegedly process SNAP benefit transfer cards illegally in stores across the New York City area.
