Energizer releases coin lithium batteries that won't cause burning if accidentally swallowed - Engadget
"Energizer has released a new Ultimate Child Shield version of its 20mm coin lithium batteries aimed at reducing health risks if a child accidentally swallows the battery."
"Traditional coin batteries can cause esophageal burning within 15 minutes of ingestion, and the addition of the dye can help a caregiver notice quickly if an accident has occurred."
Energizer introduced the Ultimate Child Shield version of its 20mm coin lithium batteries to mitigate health risks associated with accidental ingestion by children. These batteries prevent esophageal burning if swallowed and include a dye that turns a child's mouth blue upon contact with saliva. Over 3,500 incidents of coin lithium battery ingestion occur annually in the US. The new technology is available in sizes 2032, 2025, and 2016, which are used in various devices such as watches and AirTags.
