Eid al-Adha, a significant Islamic celebration, symbolizes compassion and community. Traditionally, the event involves prayer, sharing food with the needy, and family gatherings. However, in Gaza, this year's celebration is marred by destruction and loss, reflecting a bleak reality as homes are reduced to rubble and streets that once brimmed with life are now lifeless. The memories of vibrant celebrations two years ago stand in stark contrast to the current desolation, showcasing the impact of ongoing conflict on cultural and religious practices in the region.
This year, Eid didn't come to us. For the second year in a row, Eid has not visited Gaza. Today, we feel none of those rituals.
The celebration... commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail, before God intervened and provided a ram instead.
Eid al-Adha carries deep meanings of compassion and solidarity, emphasizing the importance of sharing with the poor and needy.
Just two years ago, Gaza's streets during Eid al-Adha were vibrant until midnight, filled with the sounds of joy and celebration.
