The tragic death of 15-week-old Akram Mohammed is linked to mould and damp issues in his family's housing association flat in North London. His parents, Abdushafi and Aiat, are advocating for better living conditions after reporting ongoing problems with mould and damp that they claim worsened their son's respiratory health. Legal representatives indicate the family's complaints went unanswered, contributing to Akram's struggles before his death. Protests have been organized by community groups addressing inadequate housing conditions. The inquest into Akram’s death has been postponed, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding tenant safety and care.
Mrs Mohammed said Akram struggled with the conditions, adding to BBC London: If they just fixed those issues maybe he had a chance to live. When he was just months old I started to notice he had difficulty breathing. He could breathe very, very loudly. But eventually the problems got bigger and bigger.
A spokesman for Social Housing Action Campaign said: After the death of four-month old baby Akram Mohammed in a mould-ridden Notting Hill Genesis property, SHAC and the Unite Housing Workers Branch jointly organised a protest outside NHG's head office on Friday.
