New York City's crime rates have dramatically declined in early 2025, with 264 shootings and 112 homicides recorded in the first five months, marking the lowest figures in decades. Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch credited strategic policing and resource deployment for this success. Adams emphasized that these numbers reflect a safer environment for New Yorkers, while Tisch highlighted the NYPD's focus on gun control and data-driven strategies. Plans are in place to further reduce summer violence with aggressive policing strategies.
From January through May, there were 264 shootings citywide, down from the previous record low of 267 by the same point in 2018.
These historic achievements are the direct result of our administration's commitment to precision policing, strategic deployment of resources, and the tireless dedication of the brave men and women of the NYPD.
