Kyle Lowry makes season playing debut for 76ers, joins NBA's exclusive 20-year club
""I guess he gets his 20th season officially in the books now by hitting the court," 76ers coach Nick Nurse said. "Who would have thought it for Kyle Lowry 20 years ago, right?" Vince Carter and LeBron James share the NBA record for player longevity with 22 seasons; James has yet to play for the Los Angeles Lakers this season because of injury."
""He's really done a great job, I think, just being part of our leadership group," Nurse said. "Obviously, when the players are pulling for him out there, you can see that he's well-liked, well-respected, all that kind of stuff." Lowry made his only shot, a 3-pointer with 1:19 left, and broke into a wide smile after scoring those points - as teammates celebrated on the bench as well. He also had a steal and an assist."
Kyle Lowry, a 39-year-old guard for the 76ers, entered with 3:12 remaining in a 129-105 victory over the Brooklyn Nets and officially reached his 20th NBA season. He became the 12th player to reach 20 seasons, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Jamal Crawford and Udonis Haslem. Coach Nick Nurse praised Lowry's leadership and the clear respect he commands among teammates. Lowry made his only shot, a three-pointer, recorded a steal and an assist, and celebrated with teammates on the bench. Lowry is a six-time All-Star, a member of Toronto's 2019 title team, and a Philadelphia native and former Villanova player. Teammate Tyrese Maxey called him a Hall of Famer, noted likely jersey retirement in Toronto, and described Lowry's daily mentorship and shared workouts.
