Roger Craig may beat fellow 49ers great Frank Gore to Hall of Fame
""He meant everything to that offense," Montana said."
""It's so overdue," Montana said last week of Craig's Hall of Fame case. "There's another guy in there that has done what he's done and there's no reason he shouldn't be there. Hopefully they give him his due respect and he gets in. We're all pulling for him.""
""There's a guy that wasn't just a runner," Montana added of Craig. "He's like a wide receiver catching passes out of the backfield.""
Joe Montana emphasized Roger Craig's central importance to the 49ers offense. Roger Craig and Frank Gore are finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, with the class to be revealed at NFL Honors after selection by a 50-member committee. Craig's 32-year wait as a Seniors finalist is widely expected to end; he advanced previously in 2010 and 2020. Craig was the first NFL player to gain 1,000 yards both rushing and receiving in a season (1985). Frank Gore, the NFL's third all-time leading rusher, is likely to be invited to Canton even if not a first-ballot inductee.
