Tight ends take over on holiday: Best plays and highlights
"We were on the sidelines after [former 49ers tight end Garrett] Celek's score when Jimmy [Garoppolo] asked, 'What is it, like National Tight Ends Day?'"
"I was like, 'yeah, it's National Tight Ends Day. It's a holiday. Tight ends all over the league are scoring touchdowns.' That's how it came to be. We just kind of rolled with it."
"Kraft represented the position group in primetime by scoring the first touchdown of this week's "Sunday Night Football" matchup. He then followed it up with a second score in the fourth quarter, this one a 24-yard grab for his sixth touchdown of the season."
The fourth weekend of October is celebrated as National Tight Ends Day, which began after an 11-yard touchdown by Garrett Celek in Week 2 of 2018. Jimmy Garoppolo's offhand question and George Kittle's response helped cement the idea, and tight ends embraced the informal holiday. On the holiday last year, tight ends recorded 17 touchdowns, with a single-day Super Bowl-era high of 177 receptions and a record of 22 touchdowns in a day set in Week 1 of 2015. Week 8 highlights included Tucker Kraft scoring two touchdowns, including a 24-yard grab for his sixth of the season.
