Eric Adams Set to Drop Out of NYC Mayor's Race By End of The Week: Report
"The report comes following Gov. Kathy Hochul's (D) Monday morning endorsement of Mamdani, a 33-year-old self-proclaimed democratic socialist. President Donald Trump called Hochul's endorsement, a shocking development and very bad one for New York City. Earlier this month, Adams held a press conference outside Gracie Mansion to deny reports he was leaving the race, declaring he was the only one that can beat Mamdani."
"Politico reported that in an effort to clear the way for Cuomo, Trump offered Adams a position at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. In addition, The New York Times reported that Trump was also considering giving Sliwa a position as part of his plan to damage the chances of Mamdani winning. Both Adams and Sliwa denied reports they considered taking jobs with the Trump administration."
"Last week, Trump seemed resigned to the fact that Mamdani would win the race. He told Fox & Friends that a Mamdani win would be tantamount to rebellion. It's also a rebellion against bad candidates, Trump said. The president called Mamdani, my little communist, and suggested he could still wield power over New York City if Mamdani wins. He has to come to Washington for money, Trump said. Mamdani has the support of sens. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT)."
Incumbent New York City Mayor Eric Adams is preparing to withdraw from the mayoral contest, shifting dynamics among candidates Zohran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo, and Curtis Sliwa. Gov. Kathy Hochul endorsed Mamdani, a 33-year-old self-described democratic socialist, prompting criticism from President Donald Trump. Trump offered Adams a federal position to clear the path for Cuomo and considered offering Sliwa a role to undermine Mamdani, claims both Adams and Sliwa deny. Trump warned that a Mamdani victory would be a rebellion, labeled Mamdani "my little communist," and suggested federal influence over city funding. Mamdani has support from Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Chris Van Hollen. Opinion pieces urged Democrats to back Mamdani, and billionaire Bill Ackerman praised Adams's potential exit.
