NYC area could get 13-foot waves, coastal flooding due to Hurricane Erin impacts
Briefly

Coastal areas of the New York metro are under watches and advisories as Hurricane Erin tracks offshore. Coastal flood watches cover southern Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island Thursday evening and most of the Jersey Shore through Friday. High-surf advisories predict waves generally 4–13 feet, potentially reaching 16–17 feet, with the largest impacts Thursday night. Officials warn of life-threatening rip currents and urge people to stay out of the water. Supercharged tides and strong winds could erode beaches, especially toward eastern Long Island. Showers Wednesday may bring locally heavy rain and minor flooding through Thursday morning.
There will be a possibility for widespread moderate coastal flooding, especially in vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline,
Given how high the surf is, it's very dangerous to be out there in the water.
