"A police statement said that on Sunday at just before 5 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call of an "unlicensed aircraft" in the vicinity of the park bordered roughly by Gravesend Bay, Shore Parkway, Bay 44th Street and Bay 49th St. Responding officers were told that Warren was seen "parachuting off of the Verrazzano Bridge," according to the police statement."
"The man was allegedly hang-gliding from the span, according to a report in the Daily News. The investigation continues, the police statement said. The bridge was closed to all traffic for most of the day on Sunday to accommodate the over 50,000 runners who crossed the span at the start of the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon."
Police responded to a 911 call about an "unlicensed aircraft" near Calvert Vaux Park in Brooklyn just before 5 p.m. Officers were told a man was seen "parachuting off of the Verrazzano Bridge." Jonathan Warren of Hancock Street was apprehended by the Emergency Service Unit at the park and charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment. The man is alleged to have hang-glided from the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. The investigation continues and the MTA referred inquiries to the NYPD. The bridge had been closed to traffic for most of the day to accommodate over 50,000 runners at the start of the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon.
