In a recent game against the Chicago White Sox, Mets player Brandon Nimmo displayed his characteristic hustle on the field, which unfortunately led to a miscommunication with teammate Juan Soto. After Nimmo's aggressive base running following a hit by Soto, the situation resulted in Soto being ruled out due to Nimmo's return to first base, altering Soto's hit to a groundout. Both players and the coaching staff recognized the need for clearer communication to avoid such mistakes in the future, highlighting the complexity of base running situations in baseball.
I thought it was down for sure. I had my back to the play and heard the crowd act like the ball was caught. So I turned around.
...I probably, I guess (should) not be so aggressive. Maybe just watch the play a little bit more. I think that's probably the fix to it.
