The Yankees had a mixed weekend, getting positive momentum by winning against the A's and witnessing Aaron Judge hit two home runs. In contrast, the spotlight was on Tarik Skubal, who solidified his status as the best pitcher in baseball through an extraordinary outing against the Minnesota Twins, achieving 13 strikeouts over seven innings with only one hit allowed, showcasing his elite performance and changeup effectiveness, making it difficult for opposing hitters to have successful at-bats.
Skubal looked like he might approach a 20-strikeout game yesterday on Sunday Night Baseball, striking out eight of the first nine batters he faced.
Whenever they weren't flailing helplessly at Skubal's trademark changeup, the few balls they put into play were so poorly struck they never much looked like doing damage.
At this point, Skubal's exploits are almost ho-hum. He generated 15 more whiffs on 23 swings against his change, and sat just under 98 mph on his fastball.
With no obvious answer for the best pitcher in baseball, Skubal has solidified his position with an outstanding performance against the Twins.
