Employees at the NSF are relieved that a court ruling has temporarily halted planned layoffs from the Trump administration. However, they express feelings of confusion, fear, and fatigue due to ongoing instability. The ruling prohibits any further reduction in force actions, allowing employees scheduled for administrative leave to continue working. Despite this temporary reprieve, NSF staff are concerned that financial uncertainties and chaos in government may lead to future challenges, making their capacity to perform their duties precarious.
A source at the foundation told The Register staff are confused, scared, depressed, angry, and tired of the chaos. They're not sure what comes next and they can't do the job "because we have no funds to make awards."
The memo goes on to say that Deferred Resignation Program (DRP) and Voluntary Early Retirement Authority (VERA) announcements...are also affected by the judge's order. It says the order prohibits placing employees on administrative leave and prevents relevant agencies from implementing their Agency RIF and Reorganization Plans (ARRPs).
