These exotic particles could break physics
Physicists expect the standard model to be incomplete because it cannot explain phenomena such as dark matter, even as measurements keep confirming it with higher precision. A previously concerning W-boson mass discrepancy disappeared after further investigation. A new LHC analysis from CERN’s LHCb experiment, accepted for publication in Physical Review Letters, indicates increased evidence for a remaining anomaly involving B-meson decays. LHCb searches for subtle effects from virtual heavy particles by analyzing decay frequencies and emission angles against standard-model predictions. The new analysis studies timing of B-meson decays into a meson containing a strange quark.
