"La Panificadora provides a hybrid hub for baking, education, and community engagement, fostering local autonomy and economic empowerment in Ecuador's rural regions."
"This compact, modular project emerged as a self-managed catalyst for local autonomy, reclaiming the act of baking bread as vital for community cohesion."
La Panificadora, designed by Natura Futura, is a modular timber bakery in Babahoyo, Ecuador, emphasizing local autonomy and community empowerment. This 100-square-meter structure supports skills training and production, led primarily by women and youth. Built from local teak wood, it features permeable facades for climate adaptability. The project integrates a bakery, library, and communal spaces, aiming to become a self-managed center for economic activity and foster community cohesion. It presents a new model for regenerative development in rural areas of the Global South, seeking to activate local productive forces.
