Google Search Ranking Volatility October 28th
"There may have been another Google Search ranking algorithm tweak around October 28th or so. I am seeing some rumblings both within the SEO community chatter and the third-party Google tracking tools. It seems some are noticing big search ranking swings around October 28th. Update - this seems to be heating up into and through October 31st, Halloween. Did you notice ranking movement? Was there a Google search ranking update?"
"My news site is still in Discover, but only for an hour at most, after which traffic drops off completely. Almost nothing comes in via normal search because it's totally messed up. The headline box shows everything except news on that specific topic and articles that are weeks old. Of course, Search Console is also down, so you can't check your ranking properly, and as expected, the AI overview focuses on large publishers."
Search ranking volatility occurred around October 28 through October 31, with SEOs reporting big ranking swings and significant traffic fluctuations. Previous volatility was noted October 7–8 and October 15–17, and another adjustment appeared around October 16. Multiple site owners reported extreme traffic drops, including sustained 42% decreases in UK search traffic and notable declines from the USA. Google News updates slowed, Discover impressions shortened to about an hour, and the headline box surfaced older articles instead of fresh news. Search Console showed reduced reliability, third-party tracking tools recalibrated after Google removed the 100-results-per-page view, and small publishers reported disproportionate impacts.
