My four-year-old has invited King Charles over for ice-cream. Can someone please make it happen? | Arwa Mahdawi
Briefly

A four-year-old wrote a letter inviting King Charles III to Philadelphia for ice-cream. The child’s fascination with royalty has emerged after a Frozen phase, despite the parent identifying as a feminist and republican. The parent shares mixed feelings about the admiration for monarchy while trying to balance it with messages about societal contributions from various professions. Current dynamics within the United States, including Donald Trump’s perceived royal aspirations and connections to royalty, add complexity to the discussion of monarchy in a traditionally anti-monarchist country.
However, I seem to have inadvertently raised a staunch royalist who has developed a fixation on King Charles. I blame Elsa of Arendelle from the film Frozen for this.
Like many little children, my daughter had an intense Frozen phase, which led to her falling victim to the broader princess industrial complex.
I've also tried to gently explain that we live in the United States, a country traditionally hostile to kings.
It's certainly a strange time in the United States when a previous president appears to fancy himself a monarch.
