MSPCA-Angell has taken in 22 alpacas, including six males and 16 females aged between 8 to 14 years. The animals were previously loved in a single home, and many have strong bonds, prompting the desire to adopt them in pairs. Alpacas are social herd animals and thrive when they have companionship. The shelter encourages interested adopters to fill out an inquiry form for potential adoption.
"It's an alpaca-lypse at Nevins Farm," the MSPCA said, referencing its Methuen shelter.
Alpacas, small relatives of the camel domesticated for their wool, are social herd animals and need at least one other alpaca to thrive.
The alpacas, six males and 16 females, range in age from 8 to 14 years old, according to the MSPCA.
The animal shelter wrote on Facebook: "They all came from a single home where they were loved deeply... but no need to place the whole herd together!"
