San Francisco wildlife refuge looking for volunteers to foster orphaned possums
Briefly

Yggdrasil Urban Wildlife Rescue provides refuge for orphaned and injured wildlife, particularly hummingbirds, squirrels, raccoons, and opossums. The organization relies entirely on volunteers, with a current need for those willing to foster opossums. Opossums are often misunderstood and play a crucial role in the ecosystem by controlling pests. The founder, Lila Travis, notes that summer activities like fireworks can lead to wildlife distress. Foster volunteer Kitty Jones expresses fulfillment from releasing rehabilitated opossums back into the wild, emphasizing the importance of caring for neglected species.
We are 100% volunteer run. We need volunteers to be able to help these animals.
People don't always like opossums. They look like rats, but they're not. They eat rats.
Opossums have a wonderful role in our environment. They're wonderful garbage cleaners and gardeners' friends.
It's Armageddon to them... It's really hard.
To compensate for the neglect and mistreatment they experience.
It makes me really happy... They got to be free.
