Eamon McGee highlighted the unique mental and physical state athletes can reach during competition, where they push through extreme exhaustion. He noted that while many players tend to retreat when they reach their limits, he and his team managed to stay in that demanding zone consistently. McGee believes this capability to maintain performance under intense pressure is more rewarding than receiving a medal, illustrating the depths of commitment required in sports.
"We were able to play in a zone where very few people can go, where you are physically exhausted but you keep going. Most footballers back off from that place. They say, 'Naw, naw, that's me done'. We were consistently in that zone and that's better than any medal."
