Majority of engineers bypass security controls to do their job - as zero trust ambitions aren't being met
Briefly

A survey of 1,000 IT and engineering professionals revealed that 83% actively bypass security controls to complete their work. Despite a strong desire for redesigning access and networking setups, only 29% use identity-based access. Two-thirds reported their organization’s IT policies obstruct workflow, and almost half noted scalability issues in access infrastructure. The reliance on manual processes and static tools like firewalls leads to security vulnerabilities. Many retain access to internal systems after leaving employment, raising significant security concerns.
The survey found 83% of IT and engineering professionals admitted to actively bypassing security controls in order to get their work done. This highlights a significant disconnect between security protocols and operational needs.
Currently, only 10% of respondents reported that their current VPN setup works well, with no major issues, indicating a pervasive reliance on outdated security methods.
