As of late 2024, 15 US states have enacted laws restricting facial recognition technology due to privacy concerns. In response, Veritone has developed a new AI tool called Track, which avoids these regulations by using a "nonbiometric" approach to identify individuals based on clothing, accessories, and other physical characteristics. With 400 customers already, Track is being used in areas where facial recognition is prohibited, highlighting a technological workaround that raises further questions about privacy and surveillance ethics.
