WeTransfer has clarified it does not use uploaded files for artificial intelligence (AI) training. The company faced criticism after changing its terms of service, which led users to believe files could be used for AI purposes. In response to this confusion, WeTransfer updated its terms to clarify that it does not sell user content or data and only uses files to enhance service operation, development, and improvement, in line with their Privacy Policy. The changes will take effect on 8 August for existing users.
WeTransfer has confirmed it does not use files uploaded to their service to train artificial intelligence (AI) models. The file sharing company had received lots of criticism from customers on social media after changing its terms of service, which some interpreted as allowing it the right to use files for AI training.
WeTransfer stated it has "made the language easier to understand" to avoid confusion regarding its terms of service related to AI and content usage.
The updated terms specify that users grant WeTransfer a royalty-free license to use content for operating, developing, and improving the service, in accordance with their Privacy & Cookie Policy.
WeTransfer's changes come after customer concerns over interpretations of terms that implied rights to use or sell files uploaded by users to AI companies.
