"The UK's productivity crisis is one of the biggest challenges facing our economy - and long-term health conditions in the workforce are a major factor,"
"We need a new national standard that sets a baseline level of health support for all UK employees."
"fundamental shift"
New RSPH analysis forecasts 3.3 million adults will be economically inactive due to illness by 2035, a 26 percent rise from current levels. The projection equates to losing roughly 600,000 additional workers over the next decade and would cost the economy £36 billion per year. Employers currently provide limited basic health interventions, with almost half of workers lacking access to preventative services. The RSPH calls for a national health and work standard mandating minimum employer support including flu vaccinations, cardiovascular checks, and mental health services. An independent Keep Britain Working review is due to make recommendations on reducing health-related inactivity.
