Los Angeles County investigators are probing Parter Medical Products Inc. for not safeguarding employees from the hazardous chemical ethylene oxide. District Attorney Nathan Hochman emphasized the dangers of chronic exposure, including cancer and organ damage. Parter, which sterilizes a significant portion of U.S. medical devices using ethylene oxide, reportedly neglected to address elevated exposure levels among staff. Earlier in 2023, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health cited the company, imposing fines for its failure to protect workers adequately against the chemical's risks.
More than 20 members of the DA's Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant at Parter Medical Products Inc., amid a probe alleging it failed to protect employees from ethylene oxide.
Chronic exposure to ethylene oxide is associated with cancer, reproductive effects and neurotoxicity, resulting in damage to the brain or peripheral nervous system.
