Three findings of poor professional performance were made against a Cork GP for failing to recognise the urgency of a young schoolgirl's illness. The child, Vivienne Murphy, aged 10 from Millstreet, Co Cork, developed an invasive group A streptococcal infection. Vivienne died at Children's Health Ireland at Temple Street in Dublin on March 1, 2019. Her death occurred two weeks after initial complaints of a sore throat, high temperature, a rash, and general aches and pains. The infection is treatable when diagnosed promptly, and delayed recognition contributed to a fatal outcome.
