"The analysis of official NHS records was carried out by geospatial software engineer Robin Wilson and verified by the FT. Wilson, from Southampton, crunched the numbers after his wife had to make a two-hour round trip to collect his prescription for back pain that left him "imm"
A patient experienced severe back pain on a Sunday evening and received a phone prescription at 9pm; the nearest open pharmacy required a 45–60 minute drive. NHS community pharmacy opening-hours data from 2022–2025 were analysed to measure late-night availability. The analysis found an approximately 90–95% decline in pharmacies open past 9pm on weekdays between 2022 and 2025.
