Video calls aim to cut cardiac arrest deaths
Briefly

The East of England Ambulance Service Trust will provide live video support from advanced paramedics to callers reporting cardiac arrests. During the call, staff will coach bystanders on CPR through video streaming, enhancing compression quality and speed based on a successful Danish trial. Currently, survival rates from out-of-hospital cardiac arrests are low, and the pilot aims to improve them. With 3,500 resuscitations annually, early intervention could significantly increase survival chances. Less than half of the public knows CPR, emphasizing the importance of this initiative.
Bystanders do not need to download an app. During the 999 calls, paramedics send a text message to them via the GoodSAM video platform.
We know that less than half of the public have learnt CPR and for every minute that goes by without getting CPR, your chances of survival drop by 10%.
