Recent Randstad research shows a significant shift in American worker preferences. A survey indicated that 63% of U.S. employees would be unlikely to quit if required to return to the office three or more days a week. Furthermore, 70% would prioritize employability—maintaining skill relevance—over remote work options. This trend suggests workers are re-evaluating their priorities amid economic uncertainty, favoring factors that secure their future, while also indicating a preference for lower-stress jobs over higher pay, although salary remains crucial for retention.
When it comes to retention, though, pay still matters: Randstad found a pay raise was the "top retention driver" for 79% of respondents.
As the economic outlook becomes more uncertain, the majority of American workers are now prioritizing employability over remote work.
