"I didn't actually have a friendship with this girl outside of the clubs, she recalls. So we decided to be wholesome, change the dynamic of the friendship and meet outside of a bar for once. Prompted by Covid restrictions, the pair headed to a local park and went for a run. At one point, Nicoll asked her friend to record her undertaking a series of sprints. Adele Nicoll transitioned from shot put to bobsleigh after a chance social encounter and a sprint video. She studied sport and exercise science at Cardiff University and aimed to be an international shot putter while balancing university life. After graduating in summer 2020 she ran with a friend and recorded sprints, then uploaded the video to social media. A British bobsleigh athlete noticed and invited her to try the winter sport, which she barely knew existed. Five years later she targets the Winter Olympics and reflects that past decisions have led her to this opportunity.
