Put him on trial': pro-Kremlin loyalist turns on Putin in rare outburst
"Vladimir Putin should resign and be put on trial as a war criminal. His personalised, corrupt system is doomed to collapse, as we're seeing now with the war in Ukraine and elsewhere. The army isn't advancing in Ukraine, and the war is going nowhere. There are massive losses. We are fighting over tiny territories that will ultimately give Russia nothing."
"This man [Putin] has destroyed everything he could lay his hands on. The country is literally falling apart. While members of Russia's pro-war community, known as Z-bloggers, have at times criticised the country's military leadership, very few have openly challenged Putin or the broader rationale behind the invasion."
Ilya Remeslo, a 42-year-old lawyer who previously supported the Kremlin and attacked regime critics, posted a manifesto to 90,000 Telegram followers titled 'Five reasons why I stopped supporting Vladimir Putin.' He accused Putin of waging a failing war in Ukraine with millions of casualties, destroying the economy, and demonstrating how absolute power corrupts. Remeslo called for Putin's resignation and trial as a war criminal, criticizing his authoritarian rule, economic mismanagement, and internet censorship policies. He stated the army cannot advance in Ukraine and the war yields nothing despite massive losses. This represents an unprecedented breach of taboos within Russia's pro-war community, as few loyalists openly challenge Putin or the invasion's rationale.
