A Mission District Dance Party Wants to 'Melt the ICE' | KQED
"This Sunday, like so many other nights at the Mission District queer bar El Rio, the dance floor will fill up with partygoers getting down to a live set of Latin fusion beats. There will be a full lineup of all trans DJs. There will be homemade tamales. Since then, the collective has mostly focused on distributing food, clothing and other supplies to unhoused communities in Oakland and San Francisco."
"According to Yara, the bulk of the money raised at Sunday's event will be distributed directly to a handful of Bay Area families who have been impacted by the ICE crackdowns. If there are extra funds, they'll be donated to the Oakland Education Alliance's Rapid Response Team, which provides legal services to immigrant families facing deportation. Melt the Ice Fest, featuring DeAlma, Tranzmutation, DJMJ and Maryama, will take place at El Rio (3158 Mission St., San Francisco) on Sunday, Jan. 18, 3-8 p.m."
El Rio, a queer bar in San Francisco's Mission District, will host Melt the Ice Fest on Jan. 18 from 3–8 p.m. with a sliding-scale door fee of $10–$20. The event will feature an all-trans DJ lineup including DeAlma, Tranzmutation, DJMJ and Maryama, live Latin fusion beats, homemade tamales, and vendor tables. A collective that now has 25 to 30 active, mostly queer members organized the fundraiser after focusing on distributing food, clothing and supplies to unhoused communities. Proceeds will go directly to Bay Area families affected by ICE, with surplus funds to a Rapid Response legal fund.
