Personal safety concerns and opposition to corporate-supported Pride events have led to a solitary experience for many over the past five years. Attending the Trans March provided an opportunity to connect with community and witness political activism. The event included resource booths and valuable job leads. Interactions with fellow Black theatre artists reinforced the importance of advocacy for marginalized groups. The atmosphere was charged with grassroots activism that contrasted sharply with corporate influences, underscoring the genuine spirit of Pride.
My disdain for corporate-sponsored, cop-supporting pink-washing has made Pride a solitary experience over the past five years.
At the Trans March, I encountered several Black theatre artists who were there to advocate for queer kids and marginalized groups affected by current politics.
