'From the E': Night market marks a first for the Excelsior District
Briefly

The 'From the E' night market in Excelsior drew families to the Norton Street Parking Lot despite fog and wind. Attendees, including children in costumes, enjoyed wrestling entertainment provided by Lucha Libre fighters. Avei St. Pierre from the Excelsior Action Group noted the event's purpose of fostering community spirit and supporting local businesses. Residents expressed their enjoyment and a desire for larger events, reflecting a nostalgic appreciation for cultural activities reminiscent of old San Francisco. The night markets are funded by the Civic Joy Fund, aimed at enhancing neighborhood joy through community activities.
"I see so many smiles," said Avei St. Pierre, the secretary of the Excelsior Action Group. "It's the kids who really want to come. This [event] really is just for the community and helping to promote the local businesses."
"We're happy it's here," said Excelsior resident and mom Metzi Calleros. "The only thing is I wish it were bigger."
Her sister, Lizbett Calleros, agreed. "Any cultural and family activities during the summer are appreciated. It feels like old San Francisco."
The night markets began a few years back and have been funded by the Civic Joy Fund, a branch of non-profit Civic Space Foundation, focused on organizing events that bring joy to the streets of various San Francisco neighborhoods.
