The Mission's largest open street event returns
Briefly

Sunday Streets returned to the Mission, turning Valencia Street into a vibrant corridor free of cars, filled with music, activities, and community engagement. Organized by Livable City since 2008, the event focuses on promoting public space, safety, and neighborhood connections, particularly for immigrant communities amid fears regarding ICE activities. Attendance grew throughout the event, featuring entertainment hubs, health resources, and local vendors. Organizers face challenges in funding, having to raise operating costs to maintain program quality, highlighting the importance of resilience and trust during difficult political times.
"In this particularly difficult political time, I think it's important to foster community resilience and trust in each other's neighbors," said Sally Chen, deputy director of Livable City.
"We've had to fundraise most of our operating costs-and we're hanging on as best we can to keep offering this level of programming," Chen said.
