Shannon and the Clams opened their set at Mosswood Meltdown with "You Will Always Bring Me Flowers." Frontwoman Shannon Shaw mentioned writing the song in her driveway. The band, renowned in Oakland's punk-doo-wop scene, performed at the festival for the first time. The event featured local artists like Kreayshawn returning to the stage and showcased East Bay institutions. Attendees included local residents and visitors from other states. John Waters, the festival host, made humorous remarks about punk culture during the event.
This year's Meltdown, and especially Sunday's lineup, was a homecoming not only for the Clams but also for rapper Kreayshawn, who played her first show in a decade.
The headliners both days traveled to Oakland from elsewhere, too. Saturday attendees got to see Devo, the influential 1970s and 80s new-wave band that emerged out of Ohio.
