Abbott Elementary' star William Stanford Davis reminds viewers that there is no deadline to success | amNewYork
"I think everything happens when it's supposed to happen—it happens right on time. Abbott Elementary is a part of the journey. It's a breakout moment, and I'm enjoying every moment of it, and I'm hoping that there's a lot more of the journey to go."
"If Abbott Elementary hadn't happened, I still feel like I've had a good run and I've had a successful career, because I've worked a lot more than a lot of actors. It's a tough job."
William Stanford Davis, who plays Mr. Johnson on ABC's Emmy Award-winning comedy Abbott Elementary, embodies Duke Ellington's philosophy of never quitting. After moving to Los Angeles in his thirties to pursue acting, Davis booked his first role at 43 on The Bold and the Beautiful. Over nearly three decades, he accumulated over 100 credits across stage and screen before landing his first series regular role on Abbott Elementary's pilot. Now approaching 75, Davis recently won a 2026 NAACP Image Award for the role. He views his career as a continuous journey where success arrives on its own timeline, and considers Abbott Elementary a breakout moment while remaining grateful for his extensive prior work in the industry.
