SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- It was a solemn morning across the Bay Area as victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks were remembered. The San Francisco Fire Department held its remembrance ceremony at the Public Safety Building, marking 24 years since the attack. Names of 343 firefighters and 8 EMS providers from FDNY were read aloud. In all, 2,977 people died during the attacks at the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania during al-Qaeda hijackings.
The data, which comes from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, shows that about 21% of San Franciscans reported working from home in 2024, continuing a decline since remote work peaked at a whopping 45% in 2021. Meanwhile, public transit usage has seen the inverse trend: last year, 25% of people reported commuting by transit, up from the 2021 low of just 11%.

San Francisco's Office of Contract Administration has issued a notice of its " intent to award" the city's trash can contract to Tiger Supplies Inc., the only qualified bidder for a contract of up to $10 million, according to documents obtained in public record requests. Tiger will produce the city's custom " Slim Silhouette," one of three designs created for the city.

According to investigators, Wong began offering legal services to some parishioners, "claiming that in addition to being a pastor, he was also an attorney affiliated with several prestigious universities." Over several years, Wong allegedly would tell these parishioners he was "working on their case" while continuing to extract money from them using their shared faith as a way out of awkward conversations about why the work was taking so long.
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle has been placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury sustained during Sunday's 17-13 win at the Seattle Seahawks. Six-time Pro Bowl selection Kittle will miss the 49ers' game at the New Orleans Saints on September 14, home games against the Arizona Cardinals a week later and the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 28 and trip to the Los Angeles Rams on October 3.

On Friday morning at 3:15 a.m., a technology upgrade triggered a cascading failure across the whole BART system, shutting it down across the entire Bay Area for the morning commute. It impacted riders on their way to work, to classes, to flights. Train service wasn't fully restored until 11:45 a.m. Its the second full-system outage in four months caused by a technology issue.
