At least 45 residents of a rent-controlled Tenderloin building at 50 Golden Gate Ave. were displaced by a three-alarm fire on Dec. 12, 2025. Long-term tenants, including multigenerational families, face difficulty affording market rents and worry the property manager, Mosser, may replace them with market-rate renters during renovations. Some tenants accepted temporary rehousing offers that included a liability-release clause benefiting Mosser. Many residents lack access to identification and other documents needed for relief applications. The city is permitting digital documentation and has extended relief application deadlines, with Human Services Agency staff assisting at community meetings.
