"Halloween this year is gearing up to be one of the best yet in San Francisco, and it's not just for the trick-or-treaters. The final Castro Night Market this year will be the very first "Halloween Edition" - a throwback to the infamous Castro Halloween that at one point saw hundreds of thousands of revelers take to San Francisco streets (until a mass shooting in 2006 shut the whole thing down)."
"This means that on Friday, 18th Street between Diamond and Noe streets will become one of more than three dozen streets across San Francisco closed to traffic on Oct. 31 - prime real estate for safe trick-or-treating. Mission Local has made a list of every car-free street in San Francisco for Halloween. The Outer Sunset tops the list with seven car-free streets, followed by Bernal Heights and the Lower Haight and Duboce Triangle area, with four each."
The final Castro Night Market will be presented as a Halloween Edition, evoking the historic Castro Halloween while acknowledging past safety concerns. Alcoholic beverages will be served at the market, which runs from 5 to 11 p.m., and a costume contest will join local vendors, merchants and live music. Multiple streets will be closed citywide on Oct. 31 to create safe, car-free areas for trick-or-treating. Mission Local compiled a map and full list of closures. The Outer Sunset leads with seven car-free streets, while Bernal Heights, Lower Haight and Duboce Triangle each have four. Shotwell Street in the Mission is closed from 1:30 to 10 p.m.
