Hundreds gather to protest San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie's proposed budget cuts
Briefly

A large protest erupted outside San Francisco City Hall as 1,500 people challenged Mayor Daniel Lurie's proposed budget cuts. Organizers voiced concerns over job losses and reduced services, particularly in light of the city's significant budget deficit. Attendees like Judy Sorro expressed personal stakes, fearing job elimination, while others like Jennifer Esteen called for higher taxes on wealthy corporations. Supervisor Matt Dorsey indicated that while amendments may happen, the budget's harsh realities mean difficult choices ahead for many city employees and services, highlighting the intensity of community concern.
"Ultimately, that's the big deal. Let the billionaires pay, which means the mayor himself. He's going to have to get real with his peers," Esteen said.
"It makes me really angry, and it makes me upset. But I'm just trying to keep the anger directed," Sorro said.
"This isn't the kind of year where we're going to be saying we're making good choices and bad choices. The reality is we're going to be making a lot of bad choices," Dorsey said.
"My job could be eliminated if the budget goes through," Sorro said, highlighting the human impact of budget cuts.
