"Pakistan is facing a ruthless array of climate-driven disasters - from torrential floods and heatwaves to wildfires and hailstorms. This summer, monsoon floods have already caused more than 900 deaths and roughly 1,000 injuries (see go.nature.com/3vjeuqc). And in 2022, a flood affected at least 33 million people ( M. A. Waqas Science 378, 482; 2022) and caused an estimated US$40 billion in economic losses."

Pakistan is experiencing a ruthless array of climate-driven disasters including torrential floods, heatwaves, wildfires and hailstorms. This summer's monsoon floods have caused more than 900 deaths and roughly 1,000 injuries. In 2022, floods affected at least 33 million people and resulted in an estimated US$40 billion in economic losses. The combined scale of human casualties, widespread injuries, large population impact and substantial financial damage reflects extreme vulnerability to intensifying weather events and significant societal and economic consequences.
