Mountaineering rangers in Alaska have recovered the body of a 41-year-old Seattle man, Alex Chiu, who fell 3,000 feet while climbing Denali. Chiu was not roped when he fell from Squirrel Point, which is at 12,000 feet. His team attempted a rescue but reported they could not see or hear him. Bad weather delayed search efforts, highlighting Denali's perilous conditions and the risks involved. With 500 climbers on the peak during the busy season, Denali's climbing challenges are intensified due to its greater vertical ascent compared to Everest.
Mountaineering rangers in Alaska recovered the body of a Seattle man, Alex Chiu, who died after falling 3,000 ft from a climbing route on Denali.
Two other members of Chiu's team reported he had fallen, but they were unable to see or hear him as he was unroped at the time.
Denali has a greater vertical climb from base to summit than Mount Everest, making it deceptively dangerous for climbers.
Currently, there are 500 climbers on Denali and more on other mountains during the peak climbing season of May and June.
