Burnley 'way short of being competitive'
"We came to a tough place tonight, which we knew and we didn't really give ourselves a chance. The ingredients you need coming here, the real basics of the game, we fell way short. It surprised me. Tonight we were way short. I didn't see this performance coming, certainly where we've come from in terms of performances and the results we picked up."
"We were way, way short of ever being competitive in this division. I don't care who you play, if you're going to fall down where we fell short in terms of a lack of intent in everything we did at times - It looked passive at every phase. For that, you get dealt with."
Burnley lost 3-0 at Sunderland, extending their Premier League winless run to 15 matches and leaving them deep in the relegation mix. The team registered no shots on target for the fourth time this season and have conceded six goals in the opening 10 minutes across league games, the most of any side. Manager Scott Parker condemned a lack of intent and described the display as passive and nowhere near competitive. Sunderland remain unbeaten at home this season (P12 W7 D5), moved to 36 points, and aim to secure safety around a 40-point target.
