"We all know how tough it was for her, being away from the game and from the pitch for so long. "She doesn't like being in front of everyone and getting the limelight, but she really deserves it. Sam Kerr returned to action after a 20-month absence caused by a torn anterior cruciate ligament and scored her 100th goal for Chelsea just 13 minutes after coming on in a 3-1 Women's Super League win over Aston Villa. She had been sidelined since December 2023 after injuring her knee in a Blues training camp. The goal resulted from pouncing on a loose ball after a goalmouth scramble and finishing past Ellie Roebuck. Team-mates and the manager praised her immediate impact and importance to the squad. Kerr had been central to three successive WSL title-winning seasons under Emma Hayes.
