Wu identifies as a transsexual woman and describes herself as a transmedicalist who regards transgender identity as requiring medical treatment. Wu expressed regret for believing that listening to TERF arguments would produce a healthier conversation. Wu characterized TERFs as increasingly extreme, unwilling to seek compromise, and prone to degrading and dehumanizing trans people. Wu accused anti-trans activists of pursuing maximalist policies and of enjoying the public exclusion and humiliation of transgender individuals.
