Dell's No. 2 parachutes in to lead its stuttering PC business

Dell has announced a leadership shakeup in its consumer solutions group (CSG) as revenue has consistently declined since the pandemic. Jeff Clarke, COO and vice chair, will assume day-to-day leadership of CSG to accelerate decision-making and build momentum. The reorganization also includes appointing Sam Burd to lead corporate strategy, indicating a modernization of roles to enhance operations. While CSG's revenue, Dell's main revenue source, dropped significantly post-pandemic, the infrastructure solutions group (ISG) thrived due to increased demand for AI servers, seeing a 29% revenue rise last year.
Jeff Clarke stated that taking on day-to-day leadership of the consumer solutions group will help accelerate decision making and build momentum as the PC refresh cycle picks up speed.
Despite being Dell's biggest revenue driver, the PC and hardware division, known as CSG, has faced a revenue decline for the last three years, with a significant 21% drop since 2022.
Sam Burd has been appointed to lead Dell's corporate strategy as part of the leadership reorganization intended to modernize operations, fine-tuning roles and reporting lines.
ISG revenue, driven by demand for AI servers, increased by 29% in the last financial year, while CSG's revenue was just above pre-pandemic levels after a steady decline.
